The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Kathleen Addy, has advised the constituents of Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra Region, to accept the outcome of the parliamentary elections set to be declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The NCCE, in a plea to supporters of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), explained that there are only two outcomes in an election contest: a winner and a loser.
Both the NDC and NPP have claimed victory in the Ablekuma North seat, making it the only constituency yet to have its 2024 election results declared, despite several attempts by the EC.
Therefore, as the EC prepares to declare the outcome of the December 2024 parliamentary polls for Ablekuma North, Ms. Addy encouraged both parties to uphold Ghana’s democratic principles.
“My message is to the people of Ghana, particularly the people of Ablekuma North, just to say that we all know that we are in a democracy and elections are part of the democratic culture and system. In every election, there is a winner and there is a loser; there is no middle ground.
Even in the general election, we had a winner and we had a loser, so in this election, I want to urge the people of Ghana, particularly the people of Ablekuma North, to accept the result declared; this is the way to build democracy,” Ms. Addy highlighted.
She gave this advice on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at a meeting with the Election Security Taskforce and other security agencies at the CID Headquarters in Accra.
