The Member of Parliament for Kade, Alexander Agyare, has stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta may face serious health risks if compelled to return to Ghana to face the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to Mr. Agyare, forcing the former finance minister to travel under his current health condition from the United States of America (USA) could jeopardize his well-being.
The OSP re-listed Mr. Ofori-Atta on its wanted list on Monday, June 2, 2025, after he failed to meet a set deadline. It explained that Mr. Ofori-Atta now faces the full force of its mandate, including efforts to secure his return by all lawful means.
He was also added to the INTERPOL Red Notice list, meaning he could be arrested in any of INTERPOL’s member countries, severely limiting his international movements.
“Illness is not a shield from accountability, unless certified as incapacitating,” the OSP stated.
Ken Ofori-Atta declared wanted again for failing to meet June 2 deadline
Following this, there have been widespread reports and purported letters suggesting that the former finance minister has been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the USA and is scheduled for surgery on June 13.
However, the OSP, in a public notice, stated that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such medical report or letter to its office.
Reacting to the situation, the Kade MP expressed sympathy for Ken Ofori-Atta over his embattled case with the state, following allegations of his involvement in corruption-related cases.

Mr. Agyare said his personal encounter with the former finance minister during a recent trip to Washington, D.C., revealed that the latter’s health condition is dire. He added that forcing Mr. Ofori-Atta to return under such conditions could pose a serious risk to his life.
“Talking about Ken Ofori-Atta, he is indeed sick. About three months ago, I travelled to the Washington and saw him so I can confidently tell you that the man is sick. If you see him, you can attest that he doesn’t look good. I sat down with him and we had a talk,” he said on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
The MP added that; “If he happened to be your brother nor father, you will not be calling he is forced to board a flight to come down to Ghana, because, maybe he might have not survive.”
Mr. Agyare said that although he believes Mr. Ofori-Atta must return to account for himself if required, he urged the OSP to stop what he described as “lamentations and nuisance” in handling the matter, and allow the former minister to recover from his health condition.
