Ken Ofori-Atta declared wanted again for failing to meet June 2 deadline

Must Read

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has relisted former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, on its wanted list effective today, following his failure to appear in person at the OSP headquarters as agreed.

This comes after Mr. Ofori-Atta was initially declared a “fugitive from justice” by the OSP in February 2025 due to repeated non-compliance with summons for questioning.

Subsequently, his name was removed from the wanted list on 18 February 2025, after his legal team provided a date for his return, with 2 June as the deadline.

Fast forward, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, had warned that failure to honour this commitment would lead to immediate reinstatement on the wanted list and the initiation of an INTERPOL Red Notice to secure his international arrest and extradition.

In the latest development, the OSP has announced that the former Finance Minister has been declared wanted again.

This was after his lawyers confirmed to the OSP that their client could not meet the deadline, citing a surgery booked for June 13, but the OSP failed to acknowledge their plea.

The OSP explained that with the re-declaration, Ofori-Atta now faces the full force of its mandate, including efforts to secure his return by all lawful means.

Added to the INTERPOL Red Notice, this means he could be arrested in any of INTERPOL’s member countries, severely limiting his international movements.

“Illness is not a shield from accountability – unless certified as incapacitating,” the OSP justifies its renewed actions.

Ken Ofori-Atta is under investigation, dating back to his ministerial role from 2017 to 2024, for alleged involvement in contracts with issues surrounding the National Cathedral project and other financial dealings.
