Gov’t urged to reduce taxes imposed on Rural Banks to combat unemployment

Must Read

The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twifo Rural Bank in Twifo Praso, Alhaji Adam Al-Hassan, has urged the government to consider lowering taxes for rural banks.

This appeal was made at the district assembly hall in Twifo Atimorkwa during the bank’s Annual General Meeting, where he highlighted the institution’s desire to expand its reach into various communities to help combat unemployment.

Mr. Al-Hassan explained that the current tax burdens and other financial requirements imposed by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) have made it challenging for rural banks to grow.

He asserted that alleviating these financial pressures could significantly enhance job creation efforts.

“If the government supports our proposal, it will boost their achievements as well,” he emphasised.

Mr. Isaac Arkhurst Yamoah, who represented the Central Regional Association (CRA) of Rural Banks president, Mrs. Patience Antonio, echoed the importance of reviving collapsed banks, such as GN Bank.

He acknowledged that while this is a positive policy direction, it must be approached with strict regulation to ensure it benefits the broader community.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atimorkwa, Isaac Yawson, also stressed the importance of unity among Ghanaians and expressed confidence in the government’s initiatives under President John Mahama to support all banks, thereby fostering growth and stability in the financial sector.
