Ghana’s education system overly focused on examinations worrying – Educate Africa Institute

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Educate Africa Institute, William Boadi, has expressed that he does not support the idea of categorizing Senior High Schools (SHS).

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), he mentioned that Category A and B schools are well-equipped with facilities that provide better and quality education for students.

Meanwhile, he added that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) sets the same questions for all schools regardless of category.

“WAEC does not set different questions for category B, C, or D schools; the questions are for all senior high school candidates,” Mr. Boadi stated on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Mr. Boadi noted that there is no equity in the educational system of the country because the system has deliberately classified schools, but the performance of students is not categorized.

“We have intentionally upgraded some schools to be category A schools, the assessment is not categorized, so there’s no equality in our school systems,” he emphasized.

He added that the education system of Ghana needs to shift from what he described as exam-centric to a problem-solving system, to enable schools to produce future leaders who can provide solutions to problems.
