The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned an attack on Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian Schools in the Yendi Municipality on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The incident led to gunfire and the assault of the headmaster, Mohammed Shani Gazali, after armed men stormed the school premises following a dispute over the erection of a commercial shed.

However, the service denounced the practice and indicated that it is prohibited.

“Management condemns in no uncertain terms this act of vandalism and violence against the school,” the release stated.

According to the GES, although no casualties were recorded, the attack caused panic among students and staff, disrupted academic activities, and resulted in vandalism of school property.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we are working closely with security agencies to ensure calm is restored,” the GES assured in the release issued by its Public Relations.

The release further explained that the school has been closed temporarily for safety reasons, with plans to reopen on Monday, July 13, pending security clearance.
