The Deputy Fields Officer for the United Party, Afia Korankyewaa, has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to win the ongoing Ayawaso East by-election with certainty.
Speaking on the ‘Anopa Bofuo’ show on Angel FM, hosted by Saddick Adams on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, she cited key reasons for the predicted success of the NDC.
Ms Korankyewaa noted that Ayawaso East has been a stronghold for the NDC since 1992, which makes their victory appear inevitable.
She highlighted the 2024 general election, during which the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso East, Mahama Naser Toure, was unable to campaign due to illness.
Despite this, his wife campaigned on his behalf, using only his posters around the constituency, and he still emerged victorious.
Ms Korankyewaa believes that voters will now prioritise their living conditions when casting their votes.
She explained that many residents engage in the sale of rice and stew, and with prices for rice and cooking oil having decreased compared to eight years ago, this favourable shift is likely to influence their voting decisions.
“It is obvious that everyone wants a good economy. It is clear that the NDC will win the Ayawaso East by-election; we just can’t predict the percentage now.
“The NPP and other parties contesting are merely fulfilling democratic requirements; deep down, they know the NDC will win.
“The NDC is going to win on two counts: it has been their stronghold since 1992. Even the late MP, who was sick and couldn’t campaign, won. This is another reason why the constituents want his wife, Hajia, to be the next candidate,” she stated.
Ms Korankyewaa further noted that eight years ago, the NDC was in opposition, while their parliamentary candidate held a position.
The economic challenges at that time led to a reluctance among voters to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
She believes this sentiment will persist, particularly since the NDC’s presidential candidate is currently in government. Consequently, voters are more inclined to support the NDC to secure both the presidential and parliamentary seats.
