The Chairperson of Parliament’s Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, has announced the committee’s arrival in the Western Region to inspect ten sites designated for the construction of 24-Hour Economy markets across the region’s Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDAs).

Speaking to the media, she emphasised that the committee’s purpose is to identify potential challenges at the sites, such as access to electricity, road networks, water supply, and other essential amenities necessary to facilitate the construction process.

She highlighted that this initiative is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, which he promised to Ghanaians during his campaign to create employment opportunities, and it will be carried out under local governance.

“We have chosen a few places, about ten, to visit and inspect where the 24-Hour Economy markets are going to be built, which is under the local governance for President Mahama,” she stated.

She asserted that any challenges identified will be documented and communicated to the Speaker of Parliament to assist in finding solutions.

Moreover, she mentioned that these projects will extend to other regions, including the Central Region, Eastern Region, Greater Accra Region, and all regions across Ghana.

“From here, we will, God willing, move to the Central Region, Eastern Region, Accra, and continue to other locations as well. Luckily we are starting with the Western Region, and we have come here to pay you a visit because we are the president’s representatives.
