The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his determination to pursue his Right to Information (RTI) request from the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) through legal and institutional channels.
He noted that although he initially submitted an RTI application which he later withdrew, a new request was subsequently filed seeking specific information.
He expressed concern that the withdrawal letter had been publicized in a manner that misrepresented the sequence and intent of his actions.
Mr. Awuku’s renewed commitment was made in a Facebook post following the GMA’s response to his request.
According to him, the Authority’s press statement did not adequately address the eleven questions raised in his RTI request.
He emphasized that he expects a formal response that fully addresses the issues and presents all relevant facts to the public.
“For clarity, I initially submitted an RTI application which I later withdrew. I then filed a new request seeking specific information. It is therefore concerning that the withdrawal letter has been publicized in a way that misrepresents the sequence and intent of my actions.
“After reviewing the Authority’s statement, I must state that it does not adequately address the eleven (11) questions raised in my RTI request. I expect this response to fully address the issues raised and present all relevant facts to the public,” he said.
In the post, he stressed his resolve to pursue the matter fairly and in accordance with due process through the appropriate legal and institutional procedures.
“I remain committed to pursuing this matter through the appropriate legal and institutional channels.”
