Buni residents decry open defecation, deplorable roads
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Residents of Buni in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region have lamented that they have been forced to resort to open defecation due to the absence of public places of convenience, while major roads in the area remain in a deplorable state.

Speaking to Angel News, the Assembly Member for the Buni Electoral Area, Charles Okyere said the community has been ignored by the Jaman North District Assembly in Sampa for decades despite its large population.

According to Mr. Okyere, the lack of sanitation facilities has compelled residents to defecate in nearby bushes. To help reduce the practice and prevent disease outbreaks, he said the community has dug a local facility known as “Hweetim.”

On infrastructure, the Assembly Member said key routes linking Buni to Goka, Sampa, Adinkra Krom, and other adjoining communities are virtually unmotorable.

He added that attempts to get the District Assembly’s grader to work on the roads have failed due to claims of lack of funds.

Mr. Okyere further appealed to NGOs, philanthropists, and the Jaman North District Assembly to urgently intervene by constructing a befitting place of convenience and deploying the assembly’s grader to reshape all deplorable roads in the district.
