The Member of Parliament for Okere, Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, has launched a new educational initiative to strengthen mentorship, boost student motivation, and deepen community involvement in schools across the constituency.
The initiative, dubbed “Adopt an Okere School,” seeks to connect accomplished sons and daughters of Okere with schools in their hometowns to inspire students and support educational development.
Speaking at the launch, the MP said the programme was introduced in response to the growing need for students in rural communities to interact with successful professionals who can positively influence their ambitions and career choices.
According to him, many pupils in the constituency often grow up with limited exposure to people who have excelled in various professional fields, making it difficult for them to envision broader opportunities for themselves.
He explained that under the initiative, schools within the constituency will be paired with Okere-born professionals, entrepreneurs, public servants, and skilled individuals living both in Ghana and abroad.
These role models are expected to visit their adopted schools regularly to interact with students, share their life experiences, mentor candidates preparing for BECE and WASSCE examinations, and where possible provide targeted educational support.
The support may include learning materials, books, desks, laboratory equipment, sports kits, and other school needs aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.
Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth emphasised that the project is not designed around financial donations, but rather mentorship, exposure, guidance, and practical assistance capable of transforming the mindset of young people.
He further disclosed that his office, in collaboration with traditional authorities and the District Education Office, will coordinate the programme and identify professionals willing to participate.
The MP encouraged all Okere indigenes, regardless of their location, to contribute towards the initiative by adopting at least one school and dedicating time to mentor students.
Addressing students directly, he urged them to remain focused and ambitious, stressing that their backgrounds should never limit their dreams.
He noted that the long term development of Okere depends heavily on investment in education and mentorship, describing the youth as the constituency’s greatest asset.
The “Adopt an Okere School” initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve educational outcomes and empower young people within the Okere Constituency.
