The World Health Organization has selected Ghana’s Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as Chairman of the Organisation’s ‘Committee B’ of the 79th World Health Assembly.
The ‘Committee B’ is one of the two main committees of the Assembly that oversees core aspects of global health governance, including administration, financing, oversight, accountability, staffing, and collaboration with the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations.
It also drives institutional reforms aimed at keeping the WHO running effectively.
The committee plays a central role in shaping key decisions on how global health systems are managed, strengthened, and sustained worldwide.
Reacting to the appointment, the Ministry of Health said Akandoh’s selection reflects growing confidence in the country’s participation in global health discussions and its contribution to shaping international responses to health challenges.
“Congratulations to our Honourable Minister once again,” the Ministry stated in a statement.
