Anyone who breaks sanitation by-laws will face the law — KMA Mayor
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has warned that sanitation offenders will face prosecution as Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA) intensifies efforts to fight filth and flooding.

According to him, the Assembly will no longer tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse, trading on pavements and activities that contribute to choked drains across the metropolis.

Addressing journalists in Kumasi, the Mayor said sanitation inspectors and the Assembly’s task force have been deployed to key commercial areas, including Kejetia, Adum and Asafo, as well as various communities, to enforce sanitation by-laws.

He said the exercise forms part of KMA’s broader strategy to address persistent sanitation challenges and reduce the risk of flooding in the city.

“Anyone who will go contrary to KMA’s sanitation by-laws will face the law. We are giving no room for excuses. Keep your frontage clean, stop dumping in drains, and let’s make Kumasi clean again,” Mr Boadi stated.

The Mayor made the remarks when he received several cartons of Adonko Next Level Energy drinks from Adonko Beverages Company Ltd on behalf of the Assembly’s newly formed sanitation inspectors, known as Nsamansaman.

The company said the donation was intended to support the inspectors and boost their capacity as they carry out daily sanitation monitoring and enforcement operations across the metropolis.

Mr Boadi urged residents, traders and landlords to support the initiative, stressing that maintaining a clean Kumasi requires collective responsibility.

The KMA said the enforcement exercise will continue daily with support from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service. Representing Adonko Beverages, Mr Vincent Opare encouraged the Mayor and the task force to ignore discouraging comments from critics and remain committed to improving sanitation in Kumasi.
