President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by government to construct modern STEM secondary schools in densely populated Zongo communities across the country.
According to the President, the initiative forms part of efforts to improve access to quality education and bring Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education closer to deprived urban communities.
President Mahama made the announcement during Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Black Star Square in Accra on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, where he outlined several development projects targeted at Zongo communities.
“We are going to commence construction of new community day STEM secondary schools in densely populated urban areas of the country,” he stated.
The President explained that many Zongo communities will benefit from the initiative to ensure children do not have to travel long distances to access quality secondary education.
“We will put modern community day e-block STEM secondary schools in dense Zongo communities or dense urban populations, so that the children would not have to travel far away to school,” he added.
Mr. Mahama noted that the project is aimed at improving educational opportunities for children in underserved communities while promoting science and technology education.
He further expressed appreciation to the Council of Zongo Chiefs for providing land for the implementation of the projects.
“I wish to express my sincere thanks to the Council of Zongo Chiefs for generously providing land for these important projects,” he said.
The President stressed that the intervention forms part of government’s broader agenda to improve living conditions and create opportunities for young people across the country.
He added that government remains committed to ensuring that no community is left behind in the country’s development process.
