President John Dramani Mahama has urged young people across the country to stay away from drug abuse and focus on education, skills development and entrepreneurship.
According to the President, Ghana’s future depends on disciplined and responsible youth who are committed to contributing positively to national development.
President Mahama made the call during Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Black Star Square in Accra on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, where he addressed Muslims and the general public on issues affecting the country.
“I especially encourage our young people to remain disciplined, law-abiding, respectful and responsible citizens,” he stated.
He further warned against drug addiction, stressing that substance abuse continues to threaten the future of many young people.
“I urge you to also avoid drug addiction. Our nation needs young people who are focused on education, skills, hard work, entrepreneurship and service to humanity,” he added.
The President said government remains committed to creating opportunities for the youth through initiatives such as the 24-hour economy policy, apprenticeship programmes and skills development projects.
Mr. Mahama noted that government is focused on creating sustainable employment opportunities to improve the living conditions of ordinary Ghanaians.
He also called on Ghanaians to continue promoting peace, tolerance and national unity while rejecting extremism, tribalism and violence.
