The Ministry of Education has called on the Ghana Police Service to swiftly investigate a shooting incident at Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Primary School in Yendi in the Northern Region.
Preliminary reports indicated that two armed men stormed the school premises and discharged firearms indiscriminately, causing fear and panic among pupils and staff. The headmaster of the school was allegedly assaulted during the incident and sustained injuries.
The Ministry, in a statement, condemned the incident and described it as disturbing, adding that it has directed the immediate attention of the Ghana Police Service to the incident and called for swift investigations into the matter.
It urged anyone with information to assist investigations to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service.
The statement reminded the public that schools are sacred spaces dedicated to teaching, learning, and the holistic development of children and noted that acts of violence, intimidation, and the use of firearms on school premises are “unacceptable.”
It further stated that the Ministry stands in solidarity with the affected pupils, staff, and the injured headmaster.
It also assures parents, guardians, and the public that it will continue to work with security agencies to ensure schools remain safe and secure environments for teaching and learning.
