The government has assured farmers of enhanced recognition and improved reward packages as part of renewed commitment to boost agriculture and safeguard food security.
The assurance was conveyed by the Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, during the presentation of brand-new pickups and 20 motorcycles to the Ministry ahead of the 42nd National Farmers Day celebration scheduled for December 4, 2026.

Opoku said farmers remain the backbone of the country’s food system, working tirelessly to ensure food is available for all Ghanaians, yet their contributions have not always been adequately recognized or rewarded.
He noted that government is determined to make this year’s celebration more impactful and is calling on the public and private sector to support efforts aimed at motivating farmers and increasing productivity.

For the first time, the National Best Farmer will receive an upgraded prize package. It includes a brand-new pickup vehicle, GHS 1.2 million in cash, a tractor with accessories, and assorted farm inputs.
The pickup was donated by the EEZZY Group of Companies, while the Agricultural Development Bank has committed to providing the cash component.

The Minister further revealed that two other companies have donated additional pickup vehicles, bringing the total number of pickups secured so far to three. A 50-seater bus has also been donated to reward the best senior high school in practical agriculture.

In addition, 20 motorcycles were presented to support operational activities within the sector. Opoku said more individuals and corporate entities are expected to contribute in the coming weeks.

He assured the public that all donations will be transparently distributed to the intended beneficiaries, as was done in the previous year.
According to the Minister, the ultimate goal of the initiative is to drive increased agricultural production and ensure food abundance in the country. He urged all stakeholders to take an active interest in promoting farmers’ welfare.
