Former Ghana international Daniel Opare has expressed concerns about how football is being administered in the country, highlighting that the leadership seems unbothered about the state of the game.
He added that this has heavily affected the development of youth football through the other ranks of the national team.
“We are not taking football seriously as a country, and it’s killing the younger generation,” the former Black Stars defender said in an interview.
The U-20 World Cup winner suggested that one way to restore the glory days of the country’s football is to improve its facilities to complement talent development.
“We have to invest heavily to improve our facilities, and the truth must be told: our facilities are poor. I’m not going to pretend just because I’m Ghanaian,” he noted.
His statement is in relation to the growing conversation about Ghana’s chances of losing the hosting rights for the 2027 edition of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations due to the current condition of several major sporting facilities in the country.
