A 47-year-old UK-based Ghanaian, Atta Sarfo Kessie, has died after a week of sustaining extensive burns during a prayer session in Kasoa.

The deceased, also a retired officer of the British Army, arrived in Ghana on Wednesday, April 22, for a short holiday and stayed with family.

Angelonline.com.gh gathered that Atta Sarfo Kessie until his death, worked with Transport for London (TfL), the local government body responsible for managing most of London’s public transport network.

He had visited relatives in Ghana on Thursday, April 23, and told them he intended to see his father on Saturday, April 25. However, he did not make that visit because he had a pre-arranged meeting with a pastor at Kasoa.

According to them, they received a call from Atta saying the prayers he had gone for were ending and asking them to come and pick him up.

While they were on their way, they received another call from the church directing them to a nearby clinic because Atta had allegedly sustained burns.

When they arrived at the clinic, they found him with extensive burns. Before transporting him to the 37 Military Hospital, Asare recorded a short video documenting his condition.

Atta was admitted at 37 Military Hospital and was later transferred to the Burns Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Although the family initially received encouraging reports about his condition, he sadly passed away about a week after sustaining the injuries.

The alleged pastor at the centre of the matter is Henry Nana Yeboah, Head Pastor of Faith Glory Evangelistic Ministry.

He was reported to the Kasoa Police, got arrested and remanded into police custody. Pastor Yeboah was later granted bail and has since appeared before the Kasoa Ofakor Court.

Police have told the family they are awaiting advice from the Attorney-General’s Department before the matter can proceed.

The case has been adjourned multiple times due to the unavailability of the presiding judge.

The distraught family of Atta is calling for justice for the deceased.

“We just want the full truth surrounding Atta’s death to come to light and for justice to be served,” a family member told Angelonline.com.gh.
