A member of the 2024 elections campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Maame Afua Akoto, is suspecting sabotage in recent power outages being experienced across the country.

She further believes the dreaded situation commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’, may have been planned to make the Akufo-Addo regime unpopular.

“I am of the firm conviction that the situation [dumsor] we are experiencing now and the fact that it is happening in an election year, may have been well calculated to make the government unpopular,” she vented.

The Communications Team Member of the governing NPP made the statement Wednesday, April 10, 2024, while commenting on the stalemate between power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the  transmission body, Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), over the release of a load management schedule for consumers.

The two players in the energy value chain have in the last couple of days, been rapping each other about the load schedule.

GRIDCo had expressed concerns about ECG’s lack of adherence to load management directives from GRIDCo’s System Control Centre (SCC), suggesting that ECG’s actions could jeopardise the country’s power generation.

The ECG in a swift response to the allegations, however, denied the allegations emphasising its commitment to working with GRIDCo and maintaining operational cohesion within the electricity value chain.

The distributor further expressed shock and concern over the allegations.

According to ECG, GRIDCo’s portrayal of the situation lacks context and fails to acknowledge the operational challenges faced by ECG.
