The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emphasised, the significance of the 24-hour economy initiative pledged by John Dramani Mahama would bring to Ghanaians should the opposition party win the upcoming election.
In the party’s maiden edition of its show dubbed ‘NDC360’ which airs on Angel TV every Wednesday between 8pm and 10pm, it explained that the policy intervention is going to be a deliberate one by the next John Mahama-led government.
This it said, would create an enabling environment for businesses, companies, and public institutions to operate 24/7, in three shifts of 8 hours each. The two additional work shifts will double and, in some cases, triple the number of jobs in participating public and private entities.
“The main objective is to promote production, productivity, efficient service delivery and more importantly, the creation of sustainable well-paying jobs for Ghanaians,” the NDC noted.
The Communication Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi who is the moderator of the show was joined by the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, Eric Opoku in the presentation.
Touching further on the enabling economy the policy will bring, Mr. Opoku observes that “There will be no limit to the implementation or effects of the Mahama 24-hour economy.”
The policy, which the NDC says would support and impact all sectors’ including both the public and private, are “tax incentives, cheaper and reliable power, financial support through the EXIM Bank, security services through public-private security architect among others.”
According to them, the above-listed interventions under the Mahama 24-hour economy will enhance the competitiveness of participating businesses, scale up production, and increase productivity.
“Issues of unemployment, farmers, Traders, and SMEs, vacation jobs for students and the under-employed are some of the targeted areas the policy will find solutions ensuring a better standard of living by Ghanaians,” Eric Opoku demonstrated.
