FA Cup finalists Bofoakwa Tano FC relegated from GPL

Bofoakwa Tano FC are the first team in this year’s Ghana Premier League to be officially relegated.

The Bono side were beaten 1-0 by Legon Cities on Saturday.

Their chances of staying in the League was made difficult on Sunday after Dreams FC, a team they eliminated from the MTN FA Cup at the semi-final stage, beat Karela United 1-0.

By the result, Bofoakwa Tano’s point tally of 33 will not enough to keep them in the league even if they win their two remaining games.

The two other teams in the relegation zone, Great Olympics and Real Tamale United, have one additional match each.

Both outstanding games are against Dreams FC, who played in the CAF Confederation Cup this year, reaching the semi-finals.

Great Olympics, who clinched a vital away win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko, on Sunday will play Dreams FC on Wednesday, June 5 before taking on relegation-threatened Hearts of Oak for the battle of survival.

Bofoakwa Tano FC began the 2023/24 League campaign on a high note, leading the table for sometime until a 0-0 drawn game against Nsoatreman FC led to hooliganism by their supporters at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

They were, as a result, banned at home by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association, leaving them to play their home games at neutral grounds.

The club’s troubles later led to the dismissal of head coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso, and his assistant, Isaac Kofi Sarfo.

The club later appointed John Eduafo Jnr as the Head Coach.
