NPP government was over ambitious – Party General Secretary

Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary, New Patriotic Party

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has attributed the challenges faced by the current government post-COVID-19, to its over-optimistic expectations for economic growth.

Mr Kodua explains that the government made substantial investments with the anticipation of significant returns. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly halted these expectations.

“I am tempted to say our government was too over ambitious. Looking at the policies that the government put in place, we were confident in the outcome of those policies,” he shared with Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

He highlighted several key policies, such as the extensive road infrastructure projects and investments in the health sector. “We’ve constructed almost 11,000 kilometers of roads since coming into power, compared to the 4,000 kilometers done by the NDC in their eight years. The records of our accomplishments are public,” he asserted.

Frimpong also mentioned the Agenda 111 initiative, which has resulted in the construction of over 100 hospitals in various districts across the country.

According to the General Secretary, these and other significant investments were made with high confidence in their positive outcomes. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted these plans, leading to the current challenges.

“We were over ambitious because we believed we had put in proper measures and never expected a global crisis like COVID-19,” he concluded.
