Ghana’s Black Stars have made a move up the world rankings, climbing four places to 64th in the latest ranking released by FIFA on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

The Black Stars now moved two places higher on the continent transitioning from 14th to 12th.

Coach Otto Addo’s men showcased a spirited display, coming from behind to beat Mali 2-1 at Bamako before securing a convincing 4-3 home win against Central African Republic (CAR) in Kumasi.

The development becomes a significant improvement for the four-time African champions under the guidance of head coach Chris Hughton, who returned to the team on his second stint.

On the continent, 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalist – Morocco maintained their place at the top followed by 2021 African champions Senegal with Egypt, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria making the top five.

Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroun, Mali, and South Africa followed in that order completing the top ten rankings.

Argentina retains their top position on the global stage, France holds firm in second place, while Belgium climbs a spot to third.

Brazil climbed to fourth place, while England dropped to fifth. Portugal, Netherlands, and Spain maintain their spots in the top ten, with Croatia edging past Italy for the ninth place.

According to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), the months’ rankings centered on matches played in recent international fixtures.

They included World Cup qualifiers across Africa, Asia, and North and Central America, alongside warm-up matches for the European Championships and continental tournaments in South America and Oceania.

However, matches played in the ongoing European Championships and Oceania Nations Cup are not factored into the June rankings, FIFA explained.
