A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Bureau, Maame Afua Akoto, has expressed strong support for the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the party’s running mate, emphasizing its strategic importance for the upcoming elections.
Maame Afua Akoto highlighted the typical decline in popularity that incumbent parties face as elections approach, stressing the need for a candidate who can connect with the grassroots.
“Let’s be real here, every party after eight years loses popularity before the people, and if you need someone who can ignite the grassroots, then NAPO is the right man…,” Afua Akoto said during a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS).
She praised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s exemplary leadership during his tenure as Education Minister, noting his inclusive approach to policy implementation, particularly with the introduction of the free SHS policy.
“As a grassroots person, I want you to know that NAPO is a leader who embraces everyone’s ideas. This was very evident when the free SHS policy was introduced. He willingly accepted the views of every stakeholder without dismissing others,” she added.
Afua Akoto further noted that due to Dr. Prempeh’s exceptional leadership qualities, he managed to maintain harmonious relationships with major stakeholders in the education sector, including NAGRAT and CHASS, avoiding conflicts that could have escalated.
“NAPO is the only Education Minister who never had any issues with NAGRAT, CHASS, and other key stakeholders in the education sector, all because of his ability to deal with issues before they escalate,” she concluded.
Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has chosen the Dentist as his running mate for the upcoming elections.
This selection is subject to the approval of the National Executive Committee and the National Council of the NPP. These key party bodies are expected to convene soon to finalize the decision ahead of the December 7 polls.
