The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged that the party will introduce a scheme which will envelope and help train the numerous unskilled Ghanaian youth.
Addressing party supporters at the maiden Get FIT & READY Mahama Walk organised in Accra, the former President said the decision to introduce the policy is borne out of the fact that the country is gradually becoming a beacon for unskilled youth who are unemployable as well.
The National Apprentice Scheme, he added, will complement the free SHS policy and ensure that all Ghanaian children, irrespective of the level of their intelligence will be able to put their talents and abilities to work.
“All our children have talents God gave them, it cannot be that we give one group of people free education all the way to University [and for those who cannot continue to University, they are left to their own fate, not all of them can go into the TVET centres, and so our strategy will be to introduce the National Apprenticeship Programme so that for those who are not able to continue with their education, they will go into apprenticeship and learn a skill with their hands so that they can also find work…,” former President Mahama told them gathering.
The programme, he said, will help the Ghanaian youth to learn a job and become employable and earn an income.
“When we introduce the National Apprenticeship Scheme, I expect that all our young people who are idle and not doing anything, they are not in education, they are not in employment, at least they will to come into training so that they will earn a skill…,” he assured.
The NDC Flagbearer also promised to create the National Women’s Bank for the Ghanaian women in business. This bank, he said, will lend credits to businesswomen so that they can continue to be in business.
According to him, the 24-hour economy is the game-changer that will speed the country’s growth.
Mr. Mahama also encouraged party members to protect the ballot at each polling station and assured them that his policies would benefit all Ghanaians who vote for the NDC.
