Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Kobina Ade-Coker, has asked members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop exhausting their energy on the call for a debate between John Mahama and Dr. Mahamadou Bawumia.
Chairman Ade-Coker, as he is affectionately called in the political circles, stated that the NDC has no intention of honoring such a challenge from the camp of the incumbent party.
He was speaking as a panel member on the Angel Morning Show, on Thursday, July 25, 2024, on the topic “Is Dr. Bawumia’s call for a Presidential debate justifiable?.
“In every political dispensation globally, debates do happen. But touching on Bawumia’s call for a debate, I think he should rather find himself in one of ‘these villages’ and debate them instead of getting a national platform because we [NDC] are not going to debate him, we will give him Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central for such an exercise.
“He has brought it upon himself, we the NDC says no, why, because when you are in a glass house you don’t throw stones, so we are not prepared to debate him [Bawumia],” he told the host Kwadwo Oppong Kyeremeh.

The former Greater Accra party chairman stressed that John Mahama’s recent engagement with the press is equivalent to a debate, stressing that the exercise presented him an opportunity before the whole country to speak to the people.
“Mahama has always availed himself to debate in the sense that he went to Kempinski Hotel and invited journalists to ask him questions. He answered all the necessary questions that were asked. In a nutshell, he availed himself to the people of Ghana, so we want Dr. Bawumia to also go and do the same,” he said.
