Closure of some media houses not politically motivated – Boakye Danquah

Government spokesperson on Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye Danquah, has firmly rejected claims that the closure of certain media houses was influenced by political motivations.

He emphasized that these actions were necessary to uphold the industry’s integrity.

“We didn’t deliberately close down any media house. All those that were closed had issues with renewing their licenses, and any outlet that duly paid had their license renewed and resumed operations,” he explained.

Danquah’s remarks is in response to a document allegedly outlining a plan for state capture by the Akyem group.

Portions of this document suggest that the Akyem group is attempting to suppress media outlets critical of the government and infiltrate the media to undermine their independence.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on Monday, July 29, 2024, Danquah asserted that the current government has not suppressed any media house.

He highlighted that the media enjoys full freedom to express their views.

“The independence of the media under Akufo-Addo cannot be disputed. They are allowed to say whatever they wish without any fear or favor, so it is not true that anybody wants to control the media,” he said.
