Galamsey fight: We have let ourselves down – Divine Nkrumah

Divine Nkrumah believes our leaders has failed us in the galamsey fight

Director of Operations for the Progressive People Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah has expressed disappointment in the leadership of the country over their inability to fight illegal mining.

He questioned why stakeholders have failed in the country’s quest to put a stop to the practice which has become very critical and alarming.

Mr. Nkrumah, speaking to Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on September 4, 2024, on the Angel Morning Show, called for a collective effort to help in the fight because the rate at which water bodies, lands, and forest reserves have been destroyed in our immediate surroundings by these miners is dangerous.

He emphasized and said further that it has contributed to the uncommon diseases contracted by individuals recently.

“That individuals in these locations have developed skin diseases, and that if care is not taken, the young ladies and men may not be able to reproduce in the near future.”

He disclosed that “According to the current Auditors’ General Report, the budget for water purification has increased from 10 to 100 million due to chemicals employed in converting them from hard to soft water.

Some research from the Water Resources Federation has revealed that the water beds dries up instead of flowing into the sea. Even if you rely on borehole waters, it’s not safe,” he told Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

A disappointed Divine Nkrumah who doubted the commitment of our stakeholders said a new sense of urgency must be applied to achieving the common goal of eradicating illegal mining activities in the country.

“We shouldn’t make light of these circumstances. We are ruining our future without realizing the consequences. We’ve let ourselves down, just like our leaders have,” he indicated.
