Ghana’s economy gradually bouncing back – NPP Communicator

NPP's Awal Mohammed

A Member of the Communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),  Awal Mohammed, has observed the fight against illegal mining would not yield positive results without the support of Ghanaians.

Awal Mohammed noted that looking at where the country has reached in terms of the fight, it requires a collective effort to achieve a common goal.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Showing (AMS), Mr. Mohammed said “Ghanaians hold the key to the solution of galamsey.”

“It is true that we Ghanaians possess the solutions to solving galamsey. if the gold is been controlled by the community, I doubt they will not allow anyone to mine at the mining sites, and the mineral commission will monitor the area for some time before reclaiming the land and moving to another community, this action will not cause harm to the land.

“There is a proverb that goes by the saying that, they should consume what they have eaten, but we must protect the ones left because we have nowhere to go, except Ghana, we need to protect it,” he told Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.

The NPP man said further that although its government’s effort and commitment to end the canker have not yielded a positive result, it cannot be underestimated because it has rolled out pragmatic measures.

“When the NPP took over in 2016 we began implementing measures to combat galamsey but within two years, the water bodies had become polluted. In 2015, it was worse in the Ashanti Region to the point where the regional liaison officer was fired.”
