Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, says that the Northern Region’s votes for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have increased.
He noted that, although both the NPP and the NDC have Northerners as flagbearers in the 2024 election, the NPP has seen a significant increase in votes in the Northern Region.
According to Mr. Anyidoho, the NPP’s vote share has risen from one percent to fifteen percent in both the Northern and Volta Regions.
He stated further that the NPP’s selection of a northern candidate has changed the dynamics, indicating that no one can claim to be the sole northern candidate deserving of votes, especially from those who believe other parties do not support Northerners.
“The political landscape has changed, with electoral areas traditionally strong for the NDC, such as Zongos, Northerners, and Ewes, now seeing increased support for the NPP,” he said in an interview on Oman FM’s Boiling Point political show.
Koku Anyidoho who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Atta Mills Institute indicated that this year’s election is not solely about the political parties (NPP and NDC), but rather about the candidates themselves. He believes their character, honesty, and promises will ultimately determine who wins the contest.
He stated that the NPP’s flagbearer has established himself well, which he believes is why some Christian, Islamic, and opinion leaders have praised him for his integrity, humility, and effective communication style.
