Former Ghana Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Tony Aidoo, has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a “destroyer” whose leadership of the government’s economic management team has been unimpressive.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Dr. Aidoo, a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), dismissed the notion that Dr. Bawumia, often hailed as an “economic wizkid” by members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has successfully addressed the country’s economic challenges.
According to Dr. Aidoo, Dr. Bawumia’s transition from being perceived as a “rescuer” of the economy to a “destroyer” is evident in the current weak fundamentals of Ghana’s economy.
“They said the guy [Bawumia] is an economic wizkid, but that same wizkid has turned into a destroyer as evidenced by the current microeconomic vulnerabilities we are facing,” Dr. Aidoo remarked.
Expressing his disappointment, Dr. Aidoo questioned Dr. Bawumia’s credibility as a presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, given his perceived failure to manage the economy effectively.
“I don’t think I share the same ideology with the NPP. Eight years of nightmare, plus another four years, would make Ghana disappear from the face of the earth,” he stressed.
Touching on Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, Dr. Aidoo gave an analogy: “If someone with nothing promises you a cloth, take your time and listen to his name. That is how Bawumia is, a conman.”
