The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the dismissal of some members at the Agona West constituency of the Central Region, for actions that violate the party’s constitution.

The decision, effective December 16, 2024, was unanimously reached during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday (15 December 2024).

It expelled 280 members of the party in the said area. Notable name from the list include Cynthia Mamle Morrison, former Gender Minister.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the constituency chairman for Agona West, notify that the expelled members have been banned indefinitely and cannot hold themselves out as members of the NPP.

According to the statement, the decision is in line with several complaints by other party members regarding the expelled individuals’ actions.

It explained that these actions are in line with Article 3(9)(1) of its 2017 Constitution (as amended), which allows for such measures against members who fail to uphold the party’s principles and loyalty.

The NPP has called on its members to honour the constitution and values of the party to maintain unity and integrity ahead of future elections. A detailed list of the expelled individuals has been circulated to the Central Regional Chairman and the media for further dissemination.

This decisive action by the NPP underscores its commitment to addressing internal indiscipline, particularly during critical election periods, and safeguarding its democratic processes.

The decision follows several complaints received from other party members against the said persons for:

“Standing as an independent candidate against the officially elected parliamentary candidate of the Party. Joining or declaring their support for another Political Party.

“Supporting an independent candidate in the just-ended December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in Agona West constituency. Continuously demonstrating such character against the party in every election year,” it said.

The NPP has urged its members to honour the constitution and values of the party to maintain unity and integrity ahead of future elections.
