President John Dramani Mahama has called on his supporters and others engaging in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices.

Speaking Friday, January 10, 2025, at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, he urged his supporters to avoid unlawful activities and embrace responsibility as his administration begins its work.

“I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us.”

The President also urged his supporters not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

He acknowledged that some believe the NPP engaged in similar actions in 2017 and therefore feel justified to do the same. However, Mahama emphasized that the NPP’s actions were part of the reason Ghanaians voted them out, and his supporters must not replicate those mistakes.

“Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner.”

Mahama appealed to his supporters to act in an orderly manner and assured Ghanaians that his government is working swiftly to establish its administration. He promised to appoint a full cabinet within 14 days.

He added that as the government is being formed and ministers are appointed, any supporter with concerns should approach the appropriate officials to have their issues addressed.

“The end of elections marks the beginning of greater responsibility for all of us. Regardless of political affiliation, we must work together towards our shared vision, development, and prosperity for Ghana,” he stated.

“Our diversity as a people is not a weakness; indeed, it is our strength. Whether we are Muslims, Christians, or from any other faith, our collective aspirations for a better future bind us together,” he said.
