President John Dramani Mahama has urged heads of security agencies to remain vigilant in safeguarding the nation against internal and external threats.
He emphasized the importance of proactive measures to maintain peace and stability, urging them to work tirelessly to prevent any breaches that could compromise Ghana’s security.
Speaking Tuesday, January 14, 2025, during a courtesy call by heads of security, led by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, President Mahama stateed that internal threats include issues of chieftaincy disputes and incidents of armed robbery.
He further mentioned the external concerns, particularly threats along the northern borders, and stressed that vigilance must not waver.
He stated that there is no room for complacency and urged the security agencies to continue working zealously to ensure the country’s peace remains intact.
“We still have threats to our peace that we must continue to look at internally and externally. Internally, to do with chieftaincy disputes and some incidence of armed robbery. Externally to do with the threats on our Northern borders and so we cannot let our vigilance down, there should not be vacuum and so you must all continue to work as the CDS said zealously to make sure there is no breach of the peace in the country.”
President Mahama called on the security agencies to continue working closely together, as they have been doing, while he sets up the Council of State to establish the controlling board for all the services.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, assured the President of the security agencies’ commitment to supporting his mission to preserve the nation’s peace.
He emphasized their readiness to work professionally, loyally, and with dedication to support the President’s vision of restoring and maintaining stability across the country.
General Oppong-Peprah further stated that the security agencies have been working cohesively as a team to keep the nation quiet and stable.
He assured the President that they would continue their efforts with great zeal to uphold the security and stability of the country.
“Mr. President, we want to assure you of our loyalty, professionalism, and dedication. We’ve been working together as a team, meeting all the complex challenges of the security environment. By working together as a team, we’ve been able to keep this country quiet and stable.”
“Mr. President, I want to assure you that we are going to continue with even greater zeal to ensure that we maintain the security and stability this country”.
He assured the President of their unwavering support and dedication to duty, promising to help him achieve the objective of resetting Ghana.
