The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency in the Western Region has described as baseless and palpable lies, the claims that the party’s constituency chairman campaigned for “skirt and blouse” voting during the December 2024 elections.
According to the party’s hierarchy in Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, the accusations are “baseless” and “a gross misrepresentation of facts.”
The rebuttal follows a recent front-page publication in the New Crusading Guide, which falsely claimed that the constituency chairman was a financier of a “skirt and blouse” campaign ahead of the just-ended polls.
However, the party’s executives and grassroots, in their denial of the accusations, stated that it is a calculated attempt against the chairman’s spouse, Augustina Ama Tabua, who is vying for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) post.
In a statement co-signed by King Philip Anikloe and Gideon Ansah Mensah, the constituency’s communication officer and secretary, they emphasized their denial of the allegations, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
Setting the record straight, parts of the statement disclosed that some “selfish individuals” are behind such acts and are trying to impose an unpopular candidate for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.
“We believe that some individuals within the constituency, driven by selfish interests, are trying to impose an unpopular candidate for the MCE position. As loyal members of the NDC, we will not stand idly while our party’s values and principles are compromised.
One would have expected that if these allegations being peddled around had any substance of truth, it should have been channeled through the appropriate authority within the party (Regional Executive Committee or the National Executive Committee) for stiffer sanctions to be applied as per Article 40 of the party’s constitution,” it said in a statement available to Angelonline.com.gh.
The statement questioned the timing and credibility of the claims, noting that it is a mechanism aimed at destroying the image of those candidates vying for the MCE position.
“Unfortunately, those who are behind such evil works did not see the need to bring this matter to the attention of the party hierarchy but to the media. Again, one would have expected that such grievous allegations would have been backed with evidence to support their claims; however, no evidence has been adduced to substantiate such false allegations.
Another question to ask is that the 2024 elections took place on the 7th of December, 2024; why are they now making these false allegations? It is very clear that the publication is a diabolic attempt to destroy the image of those vying for the MCE position.”
It added, “These allegations are a fiction of the imaginations of proponents and allies of those who think that their candidate did not perform during the vetting of applicants for the MCE position, which took place on Saturday, 18th January, 2025. These elements are doing everything possible to ensure that their candidate, who did not perform during the vetting, is included in the list of applicants who will be shortlisted for Accra.”
The Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency executives and grassroots have thus urged the leadership of the NDC to consider and appoint a befitting and unified leader as MCE.
“We demand a competent and affable leader to head the municipality, ensuring that the agenda of His Excellency John Mahama is achieved. This will, in turn, pave the way for a resounding victory in 2028, both in our constituency and nationwide,” it said further.
They expressed their unwavering commitment to upholding the party’s ideals in the constituency, adding that upholding the principles of the NDC and working towards a brighter future for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira and Ghana is their topmost priority.
