Former Ghanaian international, Sulley Ali Muntari, has hinted that the Ghana Premier League (GPL), the country’s top-flight football league, is in disarray due to its poor state.

According to the former Liberty Professionals midfielder, the local league has no future because of significant lapses in its organizational structure.

Sulley Muntari who last played for Accra Hearts of Oak before announcing his retirement from football described the league as a “big hole where they are dumping money” with “no future for the local league.”

“I enjoyed it. Hearts fans and the president were amazing. The league is a big hole where they are dumping money. There is no future for the local league. I am hoping I can get some funds and really help them. It’s a mess.

“When I was there, it was a mess. Maybe now it is worse. If we don’t help these guys, we won’t get the top players,” he told Media General’s 3Sports in an interview.

The former Udinese, Inter Milan, and AC Milan player, while sharing his brief experience in the league with the Accra-based club, said that the dressing rooms of the participating clubs are in poor condition and smell unpleasant.

“The changing rooms smell. That respect is not there. I didn’t even want my laundry done. I would take it home. When you get into changing rooms, they smell bad. It is not just one team. Everybody,” he added as quoted by 3Sports.
