Chiefs in Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region have endorsed the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate as the right person to lead the District as Chief Executive.
According to the chiefs, Prince Henry Anim Owiredu have so far demonstrated his commitment to the development of the area and will do more when granted the opportunity to lead as the DCE.
“The young man is someone with vision and like I always do, I don’t discourage young guys seeking to climb the political ladder, I only offer them pieces of advice and that’s what I do when I meet him…but like I said, he (Owiredu) deserves the position of MCE…,” Chief of Awukugua, Osaberima Opese Konadu II said in an interview.
This view was supported by Okogyeahen Otoamfom Saforo Okoampah, Apiredehen who is also a major stakeholder in the district. He believes the President will do the people of Okere lots of favour if he appoints someone with the development of Okere at heart.
“I don’t know the criteria for selection of DCE and have not also heard that people are lobbying for the position…I have nothing against anyone contesting for the position, what I want is someone who will champion the interests of Okere so we can rally around the person for development,” he said.
The chiefs made these comments while reacting to an alleged letter sent to the presidency to oppose the appointment of Henry Owiredu as the next DCE for Okere.
The purported letter, which was allegedly sent to the Presidency by the chiefs alleged that the former NDC PC has disrespected the chiefs of Okere and hence deserves no appointment as DCE.
“He was invited to speak at my durbar before I did which has never been the norm. He made some comments which did not go down well but he later apologized…the comments have nothing to do with my personality so I wonder why someone will take this out of context and will want to bring him down,” Osaberima Opese Konadu II of Okere said.
This letter, the chiefs contend, is fake adding that they didn’t sign it.
“I actually have no knowledge about the letter since I was not consulted…I don’t support the writing of letters to high places to destroy people’s reputation hence I believe this did not augur well.
“The chief who authored the letter will be called and reprimanded when the contents of the letter gets to the Okere Traditional council,” Osaberima Opese Konadu II said.
The Apiredehen on his part also denied knowledge of the letter.
“It is never true, when I heard of the letter, I personally placed a call to him (Prince Anim Owiredu), and when he confirmed the contents of the said letter, I was taken aback because I have never been part of a meeting where we discussed an NDC DCE, let alone sign a letter, so I repeat that it’s never true…,” he said.
Prince Henry Anim Owiredu who contested the 2024 Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NDC in Okere constituency is in a pole position to lead Okere as DCE for the next four years.
His incredible performance in the polls have sent shivers down the spine of the NPP in the constituency leading to various orchestrations against his appointment as DCE as its believed he would be a bigger force to contend with when he leads the developmental agenda in the district.
This notwithstanding, the bold and assertive young man is poised to lobby for what he deems the best opportunity to champion development in the area.
