NPP cannot control their anger over hunger in opposition – Hajia Hamdatu

A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she describes as excessive outbursts and frustration since moving into opposition.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, February 10, 2025, hosted by Saddick Addams, Hajia Hamdatu stated that the NPP’s recent public statements indicate they are struggling to handle the realities of opposition. She urged them to be mindful of their utterances, emphasizing that they are not the only party outside of government.

“You cannot control your anger over your hunger, and that is your problem. But the NDC can control their hunger, not their anger. That is the difference between the two parties. When did they even enter opposition? The talking is already too much” she said.

Comparing the NPP’s current state to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when they were in opposition, Hajia Hamdatu pointed out that the NDC remained relatively composed and did not engage in excessive public outbursts. She expressed surprise at the NPP’s behavior just weeks after leaving power.

She further noted that the NPP’s numerous press conferences since the 2024 general election have been excessive, especially considering that the party has already established a committee to investigate the cause of their defeat. According to her, instead of constantly addressing the media, they should focus on internal restructuring and rebuilding.

Hajia Hamdatu urged the NPP leadership and members to manage their frustrations and take lessons from the NDC’s experience in opposition.

“Their current situation is worse than before, but they must learn how to control their anger. The frequent press conferences will not solve their problems. They need to reflect and reorganize themselves,” she concluded.

Her remarks add to the growing conversation about how the NPP is adjusting to opposition after their electoral loss, raising questions about their approach to political strategy and party unity moving forward.
