Stephen Appiah to Black Stars: We need to approach Madagascar’s game with commitment
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former skipper of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah, has inspired the team to approach their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar with urgency and a high level of commitment.

He urged the team to admit that the intensity of Madagascar’s game tonight would be different compared to the game against Chad last week, thus, the need to improve their performance to get the required results amid a fifth World Cup qualification.

Ghana, after beating Chad 5-0 last Friday in Accra, will face Madagascar at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium tonight as they seek back-to-back victories. The match is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.

Mr. Appiah, who is the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, advised the team in Morocco ahead of tonight’s game and highlighted the value of playing in a World Cup as both a player and a country.

“You know that the game we played against Chad is going to be different from the one we are going to play against Madagascar because they have a different style of play, they will come with different strengths, so it’s not going to be the same.”

“So you people should tune your mind towards the game, we are talking about the World Cup. Most of you were in Qatar, and after the World Cup, you went to your clubs and you were different,” El Capitano, as he is widely known for his leadership qualities during his playing days, said.

He reminded the players that “We all experienced it in 2006, even those who didn’t play, those who were on the bench, after the World Cup they all got contracts in Europe. So those who are playing in Europe, you sacrifice for those who are playing in Ghana. We believe in you, and we know that you guys are going to do it.”
