Every Ghanaian deserves access to basic healthcare – Ako Gunn

Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ako Gunn, has expressed concerns about Ghana’s healthcare system.

In an interview on the Angel Morning show with Saddick Adams, Gunn emphasized the need for basic healthcare services for all citizens.

He explained that his concern lies not with politicians seeking medical treatment abroad, but the fact that many Ghanaians struggle to access basic healthcare services.

“If there is a better system outside that you can explore, I don’t begrudge you,” Gunn stated.

However, he noted that the issue lies in the lack of access to basic healthcare for ordinary Ghanaians.

“The problem comes when we deprive our people of basic healthcare,” Mr Gunn emphasized, highlighting the need for improved healthcare infrastructure in Ghana.

Mr Gunn cited examples of individuals facing challenges in accessing healthcare, such as walking miles to access health facilities, therefore, stressed the need for improved healthcare infrastructure.

Mr. Gunn indicated that in spite of the people’s preferences, partisanship has been a hindrance to depriving them their basic healthcare.

“Hospitals that were started by John Dramani Mahama before going to opposition have been abandoned because of bad politics. Essential medical equipment was also left to expire due to political interference.

He added “That is why people have problems with you prioritizing foreign medical treatment over improving our local health facilities. If you would do just a little to enhance our healthcare services here, it would make a significant difference.”
