A 45-year-old farmer, Azumah Zakari, was tragically shot in Nyanoa, situated in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region, by armed men during a contentious encounter on his orange farm.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, when Mr. Azumah Zakari visited his orange plantation and allegedly encountered two armed men, identified by witnesses as Kobby Asaa and an individual known as Red, both notorious land guards operating in the area.
According to the wife of the deceased, Madam Adwoa Augustina, her husband had left home to check on his farm with the intention of felling trees to enhance the yield of his orange crops.
“He told me he was going to the farm to prepare the land for planting. Not long after, we heard that he had been shot. I was told he met some men who claimed the land had been sold to someone else for growing garden eggs.
“He bled for hours. There was no vehicle readily available to take him to the hospital,” Madam Augustina added. “By the time they managed to get him to the Asamankese Government Hospital, it was too late.”
Reports indicate that the suspects, Kobby Asaa and Red, are currently at large. The case has been reported to both the Nyanoa and Asamankese Police for investigation.
Meanwhile, police authorities have assured the public that an investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
“We are following leads to apprehend the suspects. Anyone with relevant information should come forward,” an officer at the Asamankese Police Station told reporters.
