As part of efforts to rebuild and reposition the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after its defeat in the 2024 general elections, the party has constituted a nine-member committee to review its constitution.
The decision follows the submission of a post-election review report by a 12-member committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye.
The committee’s mandate was to investigate the causes of the party’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and recommend reforms.
The submission, made at a National Council meeting held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra had attendees such as President Nana Akufo-Addo, 2024 flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, among other leading members of the party.
The nine-member committee will be chaired by the Chairman of the Party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Frank Davies Esq.
The rest are: Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Esq, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Makafui Woanyah, Hon. Ebenezer Nartey, Hon. Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Iddris Muhayu-Deen (General Secretary), and Dr. Ekua Amoakoh.
In a statement, the NPP said the terms of reference of the Amendment Committee shall include assisting the General Secretary of the committee [Iddris Muhayu-Deen] in an undertaking.
The undertaking includes identifying provisions of the Party Constitution that require amendments in order to give effect to the recommendations of the Mike Oquaye Election Review Committee.
“To work on the recommendations of the 2021 Constitutional Review Committee chaired by Hon Alexander Afenyo-Markin; to receive proposals for constitutional amendments from party members and identifiable groups.
“To categorize the proposals under various Articles and Clauses for ease of reference. To make appropriate recommendations to guide the debate at the National Annual Delegates Conference,” it said.
The statement further announced an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in the month of July to consider the report of the Constitutional Amendment Committee.
It added that this shall be tabled before the Conference in the form of amendment motions for approval or otherwise.
