The Central Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has seized more than 40 motorcycles and tricycles, locally known as pragya, in a major operation targeting riders without the required documentation in Cape Coast.

According to Chief Superintendent Albert Fii Ochil, the Regional MTTD Commander, the operation led to the arrest of numerous riders who were found operating without valid licenses, the necessary documents, or helmets.

Some were also apprehended for involving minors in commercial transport activities, which is a clear violation of road traffic regulations.

“This exercise forms part of our ongoing efforts to clamp down on those who violate the road traffic regulations in the Central Region,” Chief Superintendent Ochil told the press.

He further confirmed that processes are underway to arraign the offenders before court for prosecution.

“We are committed to ensuring that all those who flout the road traffic regulations face the full rigours of the law,” he stated.

Chief Superintendent Ochil also raised concerns about the increasing number of minors operating tricycles and motorbikes for commercial purposes in the region.

He emphasized that children under 18 years old, who do not possess riding licenses, are prohibited from driving pragya or aboboya for commercial use.

“Children under 18 years without riding licenses cannot be used to drive pragya or aboboya for commercial use,” he warned, urging the general public to comply with the law.
