GRNMA ready for discussion, not to reopen negotiations – Health Ministry told

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has issued a stern warning to the Ministry of Health regarding its ongoing nationwide strike, which began on June 4, 2025.

The GRNMA has been protesting the government’s failure to fulfill its obligations under the 2024 Collective Agreement, which includes allowances, incentives, and improved working conditions.

The situation has left many Ghanaians, especially patients helpless, disrupting healthcare services across the country.

Following this, the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, reacting to the development, stressed the importance of dialogue and engagement in resolving the ongoing matter between the government and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Meanwhile, the GRNMA expressed its readiness to engage with stakeholders in the sector to find a lasting resolution.

However, it stated categorically that the government must honor its commitments rather than attempt to renegotiate already-settled terms.

“We are ready to meet. If we receive a letter now, we will move anywhere they want us to go. But for renegotiation, we are not ready,” the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the GRNMA, Jefferson Asare, declared on Accra-based Citi FM, on Monday, June 9, 2025.
