The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has called on Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to ensure strict compliance with guidelines for the utilization of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
She said the government’s investment in the Common Fund is a call to act with urgency, diligence, and integrity in the utilization of these resources.
The minister was speaking at a one-day Regional Hearing on the Annual Development Budget Extract of the DACF in Koforidua on Thursday, June 26, 2025, and admonished the MMDCEs to uphold fiscal discipline in Common Fund spending.
Mrs. Awatey emphasized the importance of prudent application of the fund for impactful projects that improve lives and uplift communities. She warned that any deviation or non-compliance would attract appropriate sanctions.
The hearing aimed to facilitate the preparation of Annual Development Budget Extracts from the Composite Budget covering the DACF component, in accordance with Section 82 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
According to the minister, the region’s share of the DACF for the 2025 fiscal year is a whopping GH¢685,210,306.64, which is a significant increase and a demonstration of the government’s commitment to deepening decentralization and accelerating development at the local government level.
Mrs. Awatey assured that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) will step up its monitoring role to ensure judicious use of the financial resources transferred to the assemblies.
She urged the assemblies to uphold the values of teamwork, professionalism, and service, working hand in hand to ensure the effective utilization of the Common Fund.
