Roads linking cocoa farms to markets are essential, not a luxury-Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the critical importance of roads linking cocoa farming communities to markets, describing them as essential for national development rather than a luxury.

Speaking during his Thank You Tour of the Western North Region on July, 15, 2025, President Mahama expressed worry over the poor state of these roads, which are vital for transporting agricultural produce and supporting the livelihoods of farmers.

“I have concerns about the roads connecting the farming communities and our markets. These roads are vital arteries, moving cocoa, timber, food products, and people across our country. They are not a luxury; they are a necessity, and I assure you, these projects are fully captured under our 10-billion-dollar Big Push infrastructure program,” he stated.

President Mahama announced that he has directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritize the rehabilitation of these roads and ensure contractors return to their sites without further delay.

“I have directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritize these roads and return contractors to site to work without further delay,” he said.

Among the roads highlighted for reconstruction are the Enchi-Elubo, Dadieso-Ankontombra, Adjoafoa-Oseikojokrom, Sehwi Bekwai-Asenkrekwa roads, as well as various feeder roads across Bonsu Nkwanta and Bia West.

He stressed that improving these road networks would boost the transportation of cocoa and other farm products, enhance economic activity, and improve the quality of life for people living in these farming communities.
