The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti, for illegally possessing and selling restricted pharmaceutical drugs in Tamale.

A police statement indicated that a search conducted at his shop uncovered 368 blisters of tramadol and 298 blisters of tramaking both strong opioids prohibited under Ghanaian law.

The arrest took place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, around 1:30 p.m. during an intelligence-led operation at Victory Cinema, close to Aboabo, where the suspect runs an Over-The-Counter (OTC) chemical shop.

An initial inspection at the shop revealed 368 blisters of tramadol (120mg) and 298 blisters of tramaking (120mg), substances classified as controlled drugs in Ghana.

Subsequent investigations led police to the suspect’s home in Fuo, a suburb of Tamale, where a warehouse was found containing 447 boxes of tramadol and 11 boxes of tramaking.

Mr. Sayuti was brought before court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charges of unlawful possession and unauthorized sale of restricted drugs.

He has been remanded into prison custody and is expected to return to court on July 21, 2025.
