National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations linking him to illegal mining activities.
In a firm response to the claims, Mr. Alhassan described the accusations as “unfounded falsehood,” insisting there was “no iota of truth” in the allegations.
“There hasn’t been any point that I connived with our National Organizer to form any taskforce to extort monies at mining sites as claimed,” he clarified on Angel TV on Wednesday July 16 2025.
His comments come in the wake of a directive from the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, instructing EOCO to launch a full-scale probe into the allegations involving Mr. Alhassan and the NDC’s National Organiser, Joseph Yamin.
Reaffirming his innocence, he called on anyone with proof of transactions made to him through either bank accounts or mobile money to come forward publicly.
“I’m ever prepared for it,” he stated and added that “I avail myself at anytime because I know I’m innocent.”
Addressing the ongoing public interest in the matter, the NDC Vice Chair confirmed his willingness to face EOCO’s inquiries once invited.
“EOCO hasn’t invited me as it stands now. However, once they do, I’ll honour their invitation to explain my side of the story.”
Mr. Alhassan further rejected assertions that he had set up any taskforce linked to extortion, stating, “I’m putting on record again that I have not formed any taskforce and I cannot act in such a manner.”
He suggested that a small group of unnamed individuals was behind the efforts to tarnish his reputation.
“You can see cleary that some two or three unfazed individuals are hiding somewhere in attempt to tarnish my name,” he said, adding, “I will not sit down and watch people tarnish my reputation as National Vice Chairman of the party.”
In a bold declaration, he challenged his accusers to provide evidence of any wrongdoing indicating that he will forfeit his position if their claims proof to be true.
“Anyone with evidence of extortion to any taskforce I have established, or with evidence of my excavators parked anywhere and being used to destroy our lands, should bring it on and in less than 24 hours, I, Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, will resign as National Vice Chairman because money doesn’t buy integrity.”
