The victims of the Madina fire outbreak have received essential relief items to help alleviate their burden and restore a sense of normalcy.

The incident, which occurred on July 15, resulted in the destruction of numerous properties within the constituency.

The devastating fire razed 104 structures and displaced 292 individuals, leaving many families without shelter, food, or basic necessities.

In response, a coordinated effort was launched, involving the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo; the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu; the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Nkwantanang-Madina, Ibrahim Faila; and officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at both regional and municipal levels.

The team visited the affected communities to distribute vital relief items, including bags of rice, cooking oil, plastic bowls, buckets, bathing soaps, detergents, and drinking water.

This support package aimed to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by the victims, while NADMO continues to assess and monitor the situation for any long-term interventions.

In a bold and forward-looking initiative, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Madina has announced a Post-Disaster Livelihood Recovery Plan through the Madina Job Centre.

This initiative extends beyond temporary relief and focuses on restoring dignity and building sustainable economic livelihoods for the affected residents.

Under this plan, interested fire victims will receive free training in catering and detergent production, equipping them with employable and entrepreneurial skills that can help them rebuild their lives and transition from living in kiosks to securing stable income and improved housing.

The MP emphasised that, “We are excited to meet immediate needs; however, this move is about building forward stronger. Through skills training and empowerment, we aim to give victims the tools they need to rise again, not just to survive, but to thrive.”

Community members expressed their gratitude for the intervention, describing the combination of immediate support and long-term opportunity as a “lifeline.”

The Madina Job Centre, which has already empowered hundreds of young people through vocational and entrepreneurial initiatives, will lead the rollout of this post-disaster training programme in partnership with the Municipal Assembly, local trainers, and development partners.
